As Patron of the Antigua and Barbuda – China Friendship Association (ACFA), Governor General HE Sir Rodney Williams recently delivered a speech at the fifth China-Latin America and Caribbean (CELAC) Region People to People Friendship Forum in Hangzhou, China. The mechanism of this Forum was established in 2007, and offers a significant platform for the friendly exchanges between both CELAC and China.
The Antigua and Barbuda delegation comprised of HE Lady Sandra Williams, President of ACFA; Hon. Charles (Max) Fernandez, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mrs. Jill Fernandez; Ambassador to China HE Brian Stuart-Young and Mrs. Saskia Stuart-Young; Mrs. Anne Jonas, Private Secretary to the Governor General; and ADC Clarke.
The further aim of the visit was to continue the strengthening of the relationship between the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda and China. The delegation held discussions with several high level officials in Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai, which included meetingswith the State Leader of China, the People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference – Shanghai Committee. Representatives of the Antiguan student body also met with the Governor General and team in Shanghai.
HE Sir Rodney Williams expressed gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for sponsoring the five-day visit. “This is a country with which we have established diplomatic relations since 1983, and with which we have cooperated on both national and international levels in a very strong bilateral relationship. We welcome the opportunity to grow the bonds of people to people friendship through our involvement in the ACFA.”
