On Sunday August 23rd, a major blaze engulfed the Cooks Landfill leading many to believe this was an act of arson.
According to reports, Solid Waste Operations Manager, Fitzgerald Lewis said that nothing could be said on this situation until investigations are conducted.
Among items caught in the blaze were tyers, in which, some employees are said to have commented that such items are quite difficult to put out, but were confident it can be resolved.
The major fire started around mid afternoon and up to media time went into the night.
Because of the intensity, it created buildup of trucks, which were set on delivering garbage and landfill as the country was preparing itself for Hurricane Danny on Sunday.
Further to media reports, several employees of the Solid Waste Management Authority remarked that “a young man was seen setting fire to tyers” at the Cooks Landfill, hence leading them to imply this horrible event was as a result of arson.
